PakScan - Sepha has leak testing all wrapped up
Dundonald-based Sepha Ltd who manufacture machines used in the quality control of pharmaceutical packaging, has developed a new machine for the leak testing of sachets. The machine, known as PAKSCAN will be launched next week at a major trade exhibition in Chicago called Pack Expo 2008. The company, who has also entered into a new distributor agreement for the United States with Service Industries, based near Chicago, believe PAKSCAN will attract significant interest from the world's major pharmaceutical companies.
The technology behind PakScan was developed in-house by the company's Technical Director, Charles Barker and together with Sepha's Engineering Manager, Phil Cooper, they have worked for 9 months to develop a prototype and then perfect it in time for the show.
PakScan is a significant development on the traditional 'Blue Dye' testing method used by pharmaceutical companies which renders packs and their contents un-useable whether they pass the test or not. It identifies leaks in single or multiple non-porous sachets and pouches using a clean, dry and non-destructive test. Samples which 'pass' the test can be re-introduced to the packaging line, reducing wastage and increasing product yield.
Sepha Chief Executive Aubrey Sayers explains further: "PakScan takes only a few seconds to detect leaks using a highly sensitive load cell test. It is easy to use but gives extremely accurate results in the form of a Pass/ Fail reading for each individual sachet. We're confident it will attract significant interest at the show and together with our new distributor arrangement in the States, we are optimistic of seeing further growth in that market over the coming year."
